With all the heat around the potential ban on the XL Bully, we believe it is deed and not breed, and that the UK is in grave need of the reintroduction of the MANDATORY DOG LICENCE.
There is no way currently to see how many dogs are in the UK, what breeds, where they are, and also no highlight is shone on unlicensed breeders which are feeding the dog industry.
Pumping out puppies without any sort of control and washing their hands of it if something goes wrong, which we have seen recently.
Is it fair to ban a whole breed which is often very misunderstood, or look at the dog owners and how they train and look after their dogs?
We have seen recently videos of XL Bully’s roaming the streets with no leads on as ‘the owner knows they are safe’, but any ethical dog owner knows that no dog is 100% safe and this is an accident waiting to happen with a dog so powerful.
Did you know that the most dog bites that happen in the UK happen from the jaws of Jack Russell’s, but they aren't going to be banned.
That is not to hate on Jack Russell's but just to say that you cannot view any breed with a blanket 'one size fits all' approach.
So much more thought needs to go into this before a blanket ban happens and one way is to reintroduce the mandatory dog licence fee so at least the landscape of the problem can be seen and evaluated.
Remember, this is not aimed at the XL Bully but at the whole problem engulfing the UK right now and the unlicensed breeders creating an industry that the shelters and vets just cannot cope with.
We are already talking to the relevant government bodies about this proposal and hope to have more news for you soon.

The Re-Introduction of The Mandatory Dog Licence Fee would...
-
Shine a spotlight on the unlicensed dog breeders
-
Reward good dog owners
-
Ensure dog owners get the right support and behavioural training they need
-
Create a portal for better understanding of dogs and their needs to ensure their safety and that of the public
-
Create a landscape of the UK dog population which will help going forward to anticipate dog owners' needs and the needs of the animal
BUT WE NEED YOU TO GET BEHIND THIS TOO TO CONVINCE THE GOVERNMENT TO TAKE ACTION, AND SOON!
